I would like to use Feed APi on a new site but then I saw this module is supposed to be a successor if I need to use a module what should I choose? Is there an upgrade path?

Use Feeds. No upgrade path from FeedAPI yet.

Feeds is used in production in Managing News

It will stay a while in alpha still, as I would like to keep the possibility to refactor parts of the API if absolutely necessary. If that happens, there will be an upgrade path, but if you have a module that relies on Feeds it may not be compatible unless you upgrade.

If you don't plan to use Feeds as an API, consider it beta.
