I am in the process of converting a site from Sharepoint services over to drupal. In Sharepoint, there is this thing called a document library. (for those not familiar with them) Essentially they are a place to upload files such that they are easy to identify and navigate through once they're uploaded. There is also some check in / check out / history functionality in there that I am less interested in.

Being a Drupal newbie, its not obvious to me how I might accomplish this in Drupal. Can anyone point me in the right direction (perhaps with a recommended module or maybe a way to do it in "stock" drupal)?

Maybe Disknode or Filebrowser modules may help. I've not used either of them so I'm not sure if they will fulfill your requirements without modification.
