modifiers such as 'now' and "+1 day" return the error "is invalid"

Description
I have been searching through pages and pages of issues and I can not find a solid solution for this that is for the current build. A bunch of people claim this was fixed back in a June 2008 Dev release but It's still not playing nice for me.
I'm using views 6.x-2.6 and Date 6.x-2.4
All I want to do is show events that have a date that is greater then "now."
Sorry if this is a duplicate, but all the ones I have found were closed automatically and gave no solution other then "download dev" which was back in 2008.
