Need: Current Slide Causes Onhover Behavior of Menu Item to which it's Associated

I need the menu item associated with the slide being displayed to exhibit onhover behavior while the slide is being displayed. Here is an example of what I'm describing:

The thumbnail pager thing is somewhat similar, sort of.

Would this be a new sub-module? Is this hard to do? Does the functionality already exist but somehow I've must it?

I'm curious to know if others need this as well. I need it for a current project. If I can't find time to work on it or it's above my coding level, I would possibly sponsor its development.

Let me know what you all think of your interest in this kind of functionality and also ideas about how to code it.
