Get date selected on view to appear as the date in node

Not sure how to implement this, trying to figure out a way to do it
Is it possible to, when in either a calendar view or date browser, when you select the particular occurance of a node in the view for the corresponding date to be the date that appears in the node rather than the dates selected to appear by the formula generated by the display settings for the date field
I think I may have to do some theme hacking to get it to work but would be good if there was a simple way to implement this
