I used devel to create a bunch of users on my local sandbox. When navigating to a user other than myself, there's no means to start a relationship with that user.

There is nothing in APK for starting a relationship. The Author Pane module has a link if you are using User Relationships.

I am kind of puzzled in this regard as well.

I have user relationships installed, and a relationship type configured, along with APK and all of the suggested modules, as well as the appropriate permissions for users to add relationships, yet I as well see nothing in the author pane...

are we missing something here?

I just found this: http://drupal.org/node/588468

So I downloaded the dev of APK, and just copied in the template files into the APK modules directory...the links all show up now.
