I have a legacy site with plugins that causing me to need a d6 version of the tinymce w/imce and i can't get the imce button to show up. do they work together?

I use IMCE with TinyMCE fine. From memory you need to look at where you are looking for the button as it is not 'immediately' obvious. Perhaps look at the options under the image button?
