As per recent discussions on the Drupal development list, we could use a method for designating unmaintained release versions. We could introduce a setting for designating which release versions are maintained. From there, we'd need maybe a cutoff line on the releases page, e.g., "User warning: the following releases are not maintained and are presented here only for historical reference. Site visitors are strongly cautioned that these old releases may have security issues." Alternately, we could move these to a different release page.

i believe this is dupliacate with http://drupal.org/node/63491. they're ultra-related, at least. ;) let's just move all such discussion to one place, since i suspect any solution for one will alter/impact the other. i think to provide the kind of info that either of these issues requires, we'll need a new tab on the project node for authors to input this stuff. both #63491 and #65975 will just display this info in different formats on different pages as neccessary.
