I am in the process of configuring SimpleNews right now but our host has a limit of 1,000 emails per hour. Our lists may reach 20,000+ at some point and I don't really want to have to wait a whole day to send the emails out.

  • Does anyone have SimpleNews working with very large lists?
  • How do you do it?

you can use http://drupal.org/project/smtp to use an external mta instead of the drupal_mail function that simplenews uses.

Thanks so much! That really pointed me in the right direction, before I was just searching for the wrong terms, such as "bulk email server" etc. I did a search for SMTP server and a few providers came up! I will post some info below so it can help other people that may be wondering about this info too.

@benone We have the site in soft launch still. Mailing list is only around 200+ as we haven't publicized it, we are sticking with the 1000 email per hour limitation of our host for now and decided to deal with the issue when it arises.

What hosting do you use ?
I have 500/hour limit, so might be interested in change.
