Ok, I've searched and found several topics about this but not quite what i'm looking for.

I have a certain content type (prayer request) that I want everyone to be able to submit even anonymous users. Yes I don't want the create content menu to appear. I have a direct link on the prayer request views page to create a new prayer request. How do I make the create content menu disappear and yet keep the option for anonymous users to create the content.

I do want the create content menu to remain for authenticated users.

Forgive me if it's obvious....I'm still half asleep.

1) Check out the Menu per Role module.

OR

2) Set the block that is displaying the menu to only be visible by authenticated users.

For some reason my mind was not thinking of setting the menu block for only authenticated users. That worked!!
