This issue pertains to the top-level Community Initiatives book: http://drupal.org/community-initiatives
It appears to be mostly orphaned. I don't see any links to it from the Contribute or Documentation tabs at the top of drupal.org, and there's not much there. I think its pages should be moved into other books, so that people can find its pages easier.
In particular, I think that the content in the Doc section of Initiatives http://drupal.org/community-initiatives/documentation should be part of Contribute to Doc http://drupal.org/contribute/documentation.
I also think that the Documentation Team Links block (which you can enable on your sidebar), should have a link to Contribute to Doc, which it currently doesn't have.
I'm not sure about the other Community Initiatives sections -- should probably talk to their owners and figure out a better place for them.
If I can get one or two people to concur on the doc section, I could probably move the content over. Thoughts?

leehunter commentedActually it's not totally orphaned. I just noticed that there's a link at the top of the Contributor Links block.
But yeah, I like the idea of swapping around the links in the Doc Team block as you proposed and making the doc projects part of the contributing to docs section makes total sense to me. I don't have much love for the community initiatives pages. It's not very attractive and its too much of a grab-bag of different stuff.
The Contribute to Docs section itself is a bit overwhelming. The list of topics seems too long and jumps all over the place. I'm wondering if, under Contribute to Docs, there shouldn't be just two main sections: "Style and Structure Guide" and "How to contribute" (or something to that effect). Stuff about doc projects, quick ways to contribute, how to join the team, FAQ etc would go under the latter.

jhodgdonThat sounds like a good plan to reorg contrib to docs in that way.
We can leave the rest of Community Initiatives to those initiative owners. IMO. :) And good point about it not being totally orphaned. Quite.
Do you have perms (or maybe arianek) to edit the doc team links block?

arianek commentedi noticed that with the 2 docs contributing sections, definitely confusing - totally on board with meshing that into one proper section (which we can clean up once it's meshed).
i have suggestion about the community initiatives book though - maybe we can plant it inside http://drupal.org/getting-involved or alternately, create another box for it in the main handbook page in the "community" section?
i noticed yesterday i actually only have docs perms (ie. to edit all pages, embed images) and nothing more advanced (like managing url aliases even) unfortunately, so no i have no power over the docs block.

jhodgdonAssigning to myself the task of moving the doc initiatives stuff over to contributing to doc.

jhodgdonI finally got around to doing this. I moved most of what was in http://drupal.org/community-initiatives/documentation into http://drupal.org/contribute/documentation. I reorganized http://drupal.org/contribute/documentation into three hopefully coherent sections (Guidelines for style/structure, mechanics of contributing, and what you can do). And I added links between community initiatives and contributing sections (I decided there was a place for both) and put in a better description in the headers to describe the differences.
