A second make file was added that is specific to drupal.org packaging. It is not based on churches.make, which has been used in all development so far so module selections do not line up. I haven't tested it but I wouldn't be surprised if it failed badly. At present Drush Make is crippled on Drupal.org as it can not package 3rd party libraries or off site features. If I'm not mistaken patching is also disallowed (haven't tried that just yet).
Going forward, I strongly favor either (1) removing the d.o. drush make file or (2) make this a derivative of the churches.make file. There is a drush make command to automatically create this. If we go with option #2, an INSTALL.txt file should be created with further instructions on what needs to be downloaded and where it needs to be placed. Either way, a pre-packaged download should be packaged and hosted elsewhere for ease of use. All code is presently experimental so I see no need in offering a pre-packaged download of any kind.
Long term my hope is that we can get any patches accepted upstream and have all modules/themes hosted on drupal.org (some of the DevSeed work is hosted on their feature server). If 3rd party libraries could be white listed we could then use drupal.org packaging exclusively. I will not give up progress to work solely within the present restrictive infrastructure. Packaging and hosting a tarball is not a bit deal.
