Drupal for Churches

Pisgah Baptist Church, a typical Protestant church in rural America

This project is in early planning stages. Any help with planning would be greatly appreciated. I'm also open to co-maintainers.

The goal of this project is to create an "Out-of-the-Box" Drupal distro designed for church websites. In completing this goal, we will also create a number of Feature bundles which you can use to add features to pre-existing church websites.

Vote for Features

Currently Included in this Installation Profile:

  • Core - Generic Configuration for Drupal Core
    • Content Types
      • Page, Story
    • Modules
      • Help, Menu, Taxonomy, Comment
  • Extended Core

Below is the outline for how I'm going to progress. I feel the best place to start is with polishing Drupal core to make it much friendlier to non-drupalers. Many of the modules I'm including are backports of patches made to Drupal 7 (i.e Vertical Tabs and Admin). Others are chosen because they are the most popular modules which help us make our Drupal distro a complete product rather than just a development platform.

Process for Creating this Installation Profile

  1. Extended Core - A user-friendly Drupal distro, with many features which are already in Drupal 7
  2. Fundamental Features - Things all churches need and are simple to implement in a Drupal site (i.e. static pages like we'd expect from the 90s)
    • Service Times
    • Address
    • Sermons Podcasts
    • Donations
    • Staff directory
    • Blog
  3. Basic Features - Initial Web 2.0 integration
    • Events and Calendar
    • Minitries and Groups
    • Prayer Board
