I would like to see an "introduction" field added to quiz which would be presented to the user at the start of the quiz. The user should hit a "start" button or something like that to get the first question. I realize that the "quiz directions" are intended for this purpose, but since they randomize along with the rest of the questions, they can't be used like this for quizzes that use randomization.

Have you tried 4.x-beta3?

In quiz 4.x beta3 you can enter the intro text in the quiz description field. There is also a button for starting the quiz.
