MixologicMoving this to the webmasters issue queue. Should have been moved there long ago.
The current maintainer appears to be active on d.o. (http://drupal.org/user/36148/track), but is ignoring the issue queue here for this module.
Its particularly frustrating as this module has had a typo in its .install file for over a year, with a simple 1 character fix RTBC for 30 weeks.
http://drupal.org/node/590850 and in particular this; http://drupal.org/node/590850#comment-2536960
Note: I am not volunteering to maintain this module, I'd simply like to see it available for somebody to make it better if they want. Right now its languishing.
avpadernoI am changing the title of the issue as per procedure to follow in these cases, and moving the report to the original issue queue.
liberatrSo I don't have a CVS account, but I am still interested in maintaining this module. What's next?
avpadernoI sent a message to the current maintainer.
If there are no replies before two weeks, please ping this report.
MixologicThanks liberatr!

SchwebDesign commentedI am very excited about this. I would also be willing to contribute $$ for getting this module working as it should and compatible with Ajax Attribute Calculations module. Thanks everyone for the great work.
mrconnerton commentedI am willing to comaintain this module with someone. I think there is major work that needs to be done since there are a bunch of patches and hacked version of this module being used. We all need to come together and get back on track with a unified release, and then tackle some of these issues.

mobonobomo commentedVery excited about this too - it seems that this is an essential function for many e-commerce sites. It is a nightmare in terms of content optimization and management to have different products for the the variations of a product. Colors of a given product are really the kicker, as you do really need a different image of a product for things like sizes or even most other options. But those cheeky colors...
Having tried to figure out a happy solution for this module over the last two weeks, I do know that there are many threads in the issue queue that have code snippets, patches, zipped non-released versions, etc. See Mixlogic's post above.
Probably not the best thread for this, maybe a new one should be started: with a compilation of things that need to be fixed and/or functionality that would be nice to have. For example, the one-character fix in the install file, better integration with Ubercart images - like getting the image for the selected option to easily show up in the cart. I'm not a very advanced programmer, but I can take directions from someone knowledgeable and would be willing to spend some time on this.

SchwebDesign commentedWhat about this thread: http://drupal.org/node/550344 ?
I certainly haven't had the chance to scour all other threads recently, but if i remember correctly around the time i posted this: http://drupal.org/node/550344#comment-2116740 , this was the best and most comprehensive available non-released version: Post #17: http://drupal.org/node/550344#comment-2113120
Below that are several posts noting that release worked for them, as well as ones noting it didn't. More the former than the latter.
Reading further, the release in comment #51 looks now to be the best/most current update: http://drupal.org/node/550344#comment-2997684 however i haven't tested this one.
Perhaps this release would be a good starting point for adding other patches from other threads?
mobonobomo commentedYeah, it seems that this is exactly the sort of effort that is needed at this point - correlating all of the patches and outstanding issues. I will look through the queue later today.
liberatrmobonobo I would certainly appreciate the help. I originally volunteered when I was building a client site and realized how difficult this module is to use and customize. That project kind of died, but I still think this module is very important. Once I get commit access I would love to put together a dev version that incorporates all of the patches mentioned by SchwebDesign as a starting point, so we can start getting bug reports off of a common version.
I would like to collect some possible use-cases for the module. The colors is an obvious one, but I'm sure there are others. In the case I had, there was a base model with slightly different configuration. (think 3-legged table vs. 4 legged, square vs. round)
I have started an issue: #948910: What do you use this module for?
liberatrkiamlaluno, It has certainly been 2 weeks with no reply from the maintainer. What happens now? I am ready to get in there and work on the code.

avpadernoliberatr is now the maintainer of this project (http://drupal.org/project/uc_option_image).
mrconnerton commentedAwesome! Liberator, I think the first thing that needs to be done is as soon as possible put out a new stable release with all the working patches floating around this issue queue.
MixologicI'm so glad to hear this.
