I log into my site via Drupal.

I goto /usr/me/edit/gigya

I see the box to select a network

I select Facebook

In the popup I get this:

Connection Failed: This Social Network identity is already associated with another user account on this site.

Please close this window.

Why do I get this? Can someone walk me through the flow?

Is it because someone on my computer logged into Facebook? But alot of people can log in from a particular terminal.

Thanks.

This is by design on the Gigya platform.

When a user is registered using Gigya a Drupal user is also created and a linkAccount call is made to bind that Social Network identity to the Drupal user.
If a different user on the site tries to connect to a Social Network Identity that is already "owned" by another user we block the connection, because we can only associate one identity with each Drupal user. Otherwise, major privacy issues can come up.

Think about it this way - It's the same as having a user try to register using an email that is already registered on the site... you block him and say that he needs to supply another email. So the same logic is applied to Social Networks connections - if the specific Social Network identity has already been used you can't connect/register a new user with it.

This issue happens to you when testing and using the same Social Network identities again and again. when you go live your users would each have a different set of social network identities so they would not encounter this scenario and it won't be a issue.

Two questions

1. How can I delete the identity? I did it to test the Gigya system?

My original issue was that the popup did not give me an option to enter my email and password and instead it gave me the error message.

However, it has been corrected. I think I had to clear my cache after enabling 2.0.

for future reference, here is what my issue was.

I sat down at my computer
I logged out of the site
I then went to /user and got the login page
I clicked on Facebook icon
Instead of asking me to sign in and giving me the Username/pwd combo it just gave me the error.

Hi,

Same happens to me.

But, AFAIK, I never paired my Google account with another Drupal user on the website!

I uninstalled Gigya 2.0, deleted the files, made sure the gigya table was gone. Then uploaded Gigya 2.1, enabled it, ran upload.php (just in case), cleared all caches, then set Gigya up for Google login (only that).

I tried 2 scenarios to pair Gigya with my Google account, but both keep failing:

1)
I log out of Drupal, go to /user/login and click the Google icon. I am already logged in to Google so the little window quickly authenticates and thanks me and the main page refreshes. But -- I ALWAYS get the "Complete your registration" form, however many times I log in to my Drupal account at the bottom of the form. Tried different browsers as well.

2)
I log in using my Drupal account (super admin), then go to /user/1/edit/gigya. It says "You are currently not connected to any social network. Click here to connect to a social network", so I click the link and then the Google icon. I get "Connection Failed: This Social Network identity is already associated with another user account on this site. Please close this window."
With which user account would it be associated? How can I find it? I looked in the users table - nothing I could find. I looked at the gigya table, it is empty. Where would the above association be recorded? Or is it an error?

Please help... if I knew how to find which other account might be associated already, then I might get some progress on it. Thanks.

P.S. I am wondering... I did use to log in via OpenID using Google's link. That uses oauth -- could it be that Gigya is detecting that? Even though I switched off OpenID module?

I've now done another experiment. I logged out of my usual Google account and logged into another one. Then I went to to the same Drupal user account as before and paired it... successfully!!

So the question is reduced to this: what in Gigya or elsewhere in Drupal / other modules could make Gigya think I have already paired my usual Google account? Where in the Drupal interface or in the database can I find associations between users and Google accounts to disassociate them?

I don't have the time to write up a full explanation right now, but:
1) you're seeing expected behavior
2) the association isn't stored in Drupal but on Gigya's servers
3) it's possible to unlink connections but right now there's not an interface for it

The easy fix is to log in via your "usual" Google account. At the create-or-link page create a new Drupal account (instead of pairing to your existing Drupal account). Log back out. Log in as admin and delete the new account you just created. This action will completely disassociate your "usual" Google account. Now everything should behave as expected.

@azinck, your explanation makes sense, and the disassociation worked perfectly the way you suggested. You rock, thanks a lot for your help!

And I am sure you haven't helped just me here -- if other people have the same problem they will find this solution via Google even before a proper disassociation is programmed.

@vacilando @SocialNicheGuru:

For my part, I always go to the profile of the account that is already associated and then go to the Social Networks tab under Edit. Then I click on the Edit link at the bottom left of the EditConnectionsUI area and I unlink the account.
Then, things should work again.

azinck's way, of course, works too.

vacilando’s picture

@EvanDonovan - I had tried that once while I had the problem but it did not work. The Google account did not get unlinked. That's why azinck's solution was a life-saver for me. The method you describe is surely the more desirable one, but it may need testing for proper functionality.

azinck’s picture

Evan's way will work in some circumstances. It doesn't work, however, in the following 2 cases:

1) if the social network account hasn't been completely linked to a Drupal account (i.e., user authenticated against the social network but bailed before completing Drupal account creation). See #678576: unlinkAccounts() must be called when a user logs into Gigya but doesn't complete Drupal registration

2) if it's the only social network account linked to an account. The connectUI will appear to unlink the account, but the unlinking won't happen. See #650290: Potentially confusing behavior of EditConnectionsUI

Ah, thanks for the clarification, azinck.

Thanks, azinck; (2) makes sense for the case I had.

azinck:

I have tested several times, and was able each time to unlink accounts even in case (2), when it was the only linkage in the EditConnectionsUI. This works fine on our JSP site as well.

When I talked to a Gigya tech support person today, he said there were no issues with this.

So if people have issues with unlinking, it is probably due to the other case, or else to something which we do not know about.
