Is it possible to add an option to hide the taxonomy form if it was defaulted to a term?

In order to hide the taxonomy form completely (and not allow the user to change), go to administer » categories, and edit the vocabulary in question; simply deselect the node type. Then select a default term for this node type on the defaults tab.

Now the vocabulary won't show up on the node submission form, but the default term will be assigned.
