Imagecache: Option to work on uncropped image

I know there's already a couple of issues open related to imagecache, so let me start by explaining how what I want is different. There is one issue open about being able to crop separately for different imagecache profiles. Another issue is about being able access to display uncropped image as a field formatter. What I want is a way to configure imagecache to transform the uncropped image in some profiles, but use its default behaviour of using the cropped image in other profiles. Functionally, this might manifest as an action in imagecache that would tell the profile to work its transformations on the original image instead of the cropped image (which is the default).

To the end user, they would still have only one crop widget per image when uploading photos, but the system could display variants of both the original and cropped versions of the image.
