I am using Views 6.x-2.10 and the 6.x-2.x-dev version of Slideshow. I have used the slideshow (older version) with no problems. There is no settings for the style. please see attached image.

I downgraded to 6.x-2.0 and it works.

Are there any javascript errors on your page? Have a look in firebug.
