xamanu commentedOf course Drupal 7 port has to be done soon. Actually I wanted to wait till views3 is kind of "stable" and I wanted to get some changes into the timeline module first (like support for ctools plugins etc). If you are willing to collaborate you are more than welcome and I could open a new branch for Drupal 7 port.
mlncn commentedThanks for your response!
Views 7.x-3.x is working, though not all integration is– it's Date module's sort handler not working that got me looking at Timeline a bit early! But if getting ctools and other changes into 6 first makes sense, i'll watch this space for when the 7 branch opens.
xamanu commentedI created a new 3.x branch (in analogy to the version of views that is supported). So there is basic support for views 3.x, ctools plugins and the newest timeline libs. I'd like to improve it a little bit more and then we could use this branch to start the Drupal 7 port.

Thx for module, btw. ;)

pcwick commentedI ran the 6.x-3.x-dev version of Timeline through the coder tool here http://http://upgrade.boombatower.com/
I installed the resulting module in Drupal 7 along with dependencies and libraries from here https://github.com/xamanu/SIMILE-Timeline-libraries/tree/3.x
I first got an error on line 9 of timeline.module which is an include of timeline.theme.inc. I don't know how to fix this, so I hard coded the path to timeline.theme.inc and that seemed to get around the error for now.
It took me a bit to find the configuration of Timeline which is here example.com/admin/config/timeline.
Timeline configuration confirmed the location of the libraries at sites/all/libraries/simile_timeline and gave several green checkmarks. However, I got the following error:
Undefined index: timeline_library_source in timeline_admin_settings_submit() (line 82 of ~/sites/all/modules/timeline/timeline.admin.inc).
The timeline nodes example view appears in the list of views in the Views Module UI. Editing the example view produces the following errors:
Debug:
'Missing handler: node_revisions body field'
in views_get_handler() (line 841 of ~/sites/all/modules/views/views.module).
Debug:
'Missing handler: node_revisions body field'
in views_get_handler() (line 841 of ~/sites/all/modules/views/views.module).
And under fields in this view edit page:
Broken/missing handler Broken handler node_revisions.body
Other views do not produce these errors when edited.
I don't know how to fix these issues. I'm hoping the information is helpful to someone who does know how to fix them.

AlexDeRuyter commentedFirst of all I want to say that I don't have any experience in porting modules.
I managed to clear out some of the issues, the pages with the timeline settings are looking good but there seems to be something wrong with the integration for views. The timeline style plugin is visible in views but the style options are not accessible.
This is the error I found in the log report:
Notice: Undefined index: style_options in views_plugin_display->options_submit() (line 2031 of C:\xampp\htdocs\drupal_dev\sites\all\modules\views\plugins\views_plugin_display.inc).
Any help for fixing this issue is welcome.

Please don't blame the users. This issue is really a shortcoming of the website and its poor design (even after the make-over). Agitate with the powers that be ... your module's fans don't have much choice about how to subscribe to the issue threads.

xamanu commentedI opened up a Drupal 7 branch (7.x-3.x) where the Drupal 7 port has been started: http://drupal.org/node/77900/git-instructions/7.x-3.x
I put some work into it, but it is still not working. Anyway, patches are always welcome.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedSpent about 3 hours looking at this.
I'm looking at a couple of scenarios. And I'm no expert, this is what did not make sense to me
1. I'm confused at the names of the handlers. Are the handlers right? Has anyone tried hardcording the handlers to the actual field name?
2. If 1 is the case, then ctools might be looking for the wrong field.
3. I run a half backed backport which involved replacing all the 7.x files with 6.x files except the .info and .module file. Surprisingly, it run but run into the same issue of not being able to select the date.
4. The Date module might be the issue.
Again, this is grappling at straws out of desperation to finish a clients project. Will review this later. If this makes sense, hope someone can look at it, if not, well, I tried. :)

karens commentedI posted a bunch of issues with patches to fix various things I ran into. I still don't have it working, but got rid of lots of fatal errors and other problems. You can try applying all those patches and marking them ready to commit if they fix the stated problems.
xamanu commentedThank you so much, Karen! I just committed your patches to the developing branch 7.x.-3.x Further I kept on with some work on the library inclusion, finally I made the timeline to show up at least for post dates. I hope this will help us (all) to get real response when working on this. It is just annoying to have everything broken :-)

pyrello commented@staminna - FYI, it is no longer necessary to add a "subscribing" comment to follow an issue thread. You can just click the "Follow" button at the top of the page.
Yorgg commentedthx pyrello, although I did click follow and it says following, but I didn't have any notification.
pyrello commented@staminna - to get an email notification, you have to set your email preferences for the project, which is a link in the right sidebar on the project page... here is the link: http://drupal.org/project/issues/subscribe-mail/timeline?destination=nod...

Waiting for the release of the module
Comment #57
xamanu commentedGood news! There is a development release for the Drupal 7 version now available on the module's homepage.
Please make sure you get the SIMILE Timeline library from the github link (in the INSTALL.txt) since it does NOT seem to work with the latest checkout from simile's repository.
I'd appreciate any feedback on testing. Thanks.
snowmountain commentedI tried the svn links, and the github link in INSTALL.txt, and still the timeline is not showing up at all for me.
I did change 'date' to 'datetime' so the start date field would be filled out. See http://drupal.org/node/1512100
Am using Drupal 7.12, timeline 7.x-3.x-dev
I get this error a lot:
Warning: file_get_contents(/sites/all/libraries/simile_timeline/timeline_js/timeline-api.js) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in drupal_build_js_cache() (line 4817 of .../includes/common.inc).
but reloading the page makes it go away.
steinmb commentedClosing this. Pls. create separate issues containing your 7.x problems.
