When editing a node with a date field displayed via the text-field widget, the date appears in the ISO-standard "2006-09-07T17:47:00" format.

This format is really user-unfriendly. IMO this ought to display in a human-readable format ilke "September 7, 2006", making use of the field's "granularity" settings to decide which information to display and which to hide.

This is related to http://drupal.org/node/79449, so I'm marking it as a duplicate. There is work going on in that thread to change the display in the form.
