Add Irish language to l.d.o

I suggest you first find people who want to contribute and afer that we create the group.

I can do it, can you let me know any useful links on how to do this, for example the format for the Gettext Portable Object (.po) file and anything else you think is relevant?

@raff77: Using l.d.o, you don't need to know the format of such files because you would use an HTML interface for all. The only time you would handle those files would be when you import the translations files from Drupal.org CVS; as there is not an Irish translation project on Drupal.org, that is not necessary, in this case.

The apparently interest isn't served by creating a group that might not get any attention. Please try to get people to commit to doing trynslation work by commenting on this issue.

Sorry not getting emails from my Drupal account. I will do the translation, please setup a project, open an issue or whatever the process is and let me know how to proceed. I have a native speaker from Galway who is poised to translate Drupal for Irish.

Shoud I reraise an Issue or is the language spelt from English?

AFAIK, the languages code used on l.d.o are ISO 639-1 codes: it is used for Italian, en for English, fr for French, etc. When there isn't an ISO 639-1 code for the language, a different code is used.

There is no need to have a project; you just need a group on l.d.o.

I'm probably being stupid but I can't find the group on L.D.O and it says to check for an issue, which is this one. How do I go about setting up a group?

I'll be the Team Leader, username raff77. I haven't been running a localization server but can do if that makes life easier.

The group has not been created, yet; when it is created, this report will be marked as fixed.

+1 for Irish language. I've an upcoming project where we will be working on this.

There have not been any comments from users interested in helping to translate in Irish. I am changing the status of this report to postponed.

As per the W3C linked http://rishida.net/utils/subtags/index.php?find=irish&submit=Find the right language code for Irish is "ga". It is also how Drupal core understands / catalogs it. I took the plural formula from http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/pluralforms#j (nplurals=5; plural=n==1 ? 0 : n==2 ? 1 : n<7 ? 2 : n<11 ? 3 : 4), hoping it is probably right. Let me know ASAP, if that's not right.

Finally, I've created the team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/ga and made @raff77 the initial owner / admin. You can add any number of other admins and manage group level permissions of people.

Please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations. Anybody can sign up for being a member of the team and they will be able to submit suggestions right away. The initial admin can change permissions of people signing up, widening their capabilities. See http://localize.drupal.org/node/616 for explanation on how. It is highly suggested to grant both moderation permissions to those who you also designate admins.
