Add lightweight version of Date CCK field

Very often I (and many others) needs only add Date CCK field with popup calendar to node.
And in this case I don't use Date API and most of other functions from Date module.

But for add this one field type I need to install and activate 3 modules: Date, Date API and Date Timezone.
And after activating thouse modules they "eats" about 1.5 mb of memory at each page load, and add a lot of strings (I count 870 in DE translation) to translations that slows down site speed.

Will be good to see the lighter version of Date module that adds only Date field to CCK and calendar widget.

Or maybe you can give another methods to speedup and light original module?
