Screens drop with certain resolutions (with IE)

Description
Using IE6 (haven't tested with other versions, and it doesn't happen with FF1.5) the front page center column text starts just below where the level of where the left column ends when the screen width is below about 860px.
Also, several of the admin pages drop when the browser is 1024px wide (and above?). Problem pages include: access control, logs, themes (while using a two column setup) and those plus several others when using a three column setup.
