Hi,
I am new to drupal and I am using it to create a customized CMS system.
What I want to do with it is create a facebook style site using it, so at first one is presented with a log in box, when they log in; the user is presented with a newsfeed.
Currently with Drupal, the newsfeed (or should I say blog) shows on the front page without logging in.
Can this be achieved using Drupal?
Thanks.

Can you direct me to it?
Finding a hard time finding sources.
What I basically want is a log in screen at the front, then the user types their user name and password (like on facebook) and are then presented with a homepage with a noticeboard and have their own profile page, with pictures etc.
I havent seen a drupal site like this.
Thanks.

There's nothing facebook specific about that description and just about every drupal site works like that in one form or another, lol. The one facebook thread that pops to mind is http://drupal.org/node/339148. And a sample social type site is http://drupalsn.com. Fortunately both "drupal" and "facebook" are unique words so finding the info via google should be pretty simple.
Your description is pretty generic-- and what you want is part of core drupal with the exception of pictures. There's tons of ways to do images, but with imagefield / imagecache in core for d7 that's probably you'll want to use one of the imagefield based messages.
I'm not trying to be evasive-- but there's really no way to answer such a generic request in a forum thread. Install drupal, play around with configuring it the way you want, then ask specific questions as you encounter them.
