Ability to limit text of imported nodes

I have been using FeedAPI for a couple of years to aggregate content, and I'm in the process of converting to Feeds.

One feature that I think is missing with both of these (or at least I haven't found any way to do it) is the ability to limit the amount of text imported from RSS feeds. This is important for legal considerations. Pulling in full text of stories from media sites can get you in trouble with copyright law, and is generally not a good practice. Also, I've seen some headlines imported that are too long, and break my page layout.

I would like to be able to have a setting where I can limit the amount of text imported into any field to X number of characters.

This feature may save someone from a lawsuit someday.
