site url always redirects to custom 404 page

Installed Drupal 7 beta 1 with no issues on a Windows server, and apart from some issues with not recognising the Mysql installed on the server, the installation appeared fine.

On going to the test site's home page by clicking on the top left house icon or typing in the url into the browser (uxn.mergingminds.net) I noticed that it wouldn't show the sites home page ( http://uxn.mergingminds.net/?q=node/1) but actually the custom 404 page that i had created.

I tried changing the default front page in adminstration, but it always goes to the Default 404 (not found) page

Any Ideas where the issue might be or how to debug it?

I've done the upgrade to beta 2 this morning and I still have the same problem.
