Task description
Looks like the WYSIWYG comparison chart was originally created as a DROP project: http://drupal.org/node/224143 - its last update is from about a year ago now, pre-WYSIWYG API. In other words, wow, this needs updating!
This would be a great task because this (being the first page one gets to in the Content authoring modules section) is an important way for people to discern which text editor best fits their needs, and also because they will learn the differences between the different options, what is considered "valid HTML", the workflow/styleguide for contributing to Drupal Documentation, and (likely?) how to use coder module.
Specific needs:
- Remove any deprecated modules (not supported in D6/7)
- Update the latest release column (a year out of date!)
- Update WYSIWYG API column
- Validate for HTML and coder module (and update columns)
- Update dependencies and file size
- Update Table/Image support column
- Update descriptions below the table
- Roll in comments as appropriate
(If this is too big a task, those last two could be split into a separate task.)
Deliverables
An updated Documentation page, reviewed by a minimum of two other community members (one must be a Docs Team member) and approved so that the original issue can be marked fixed.

vosechu commentedGreat task, just need to figure out the mentor and I think we'll be ready to go. Out of curiosity, do you not want to mentor because you don't have time/desire or some other reason?
arianek commentedYes, exactly that - I am the main Handbook/Docs issue queue maintainer and am already drowning in stuff to do - was just trying to weed through the Docs queue and find a few tasks (I've only had time to document one so far!) Hoping I can get a couple more written up this weekend, and am thinking I will post to the docs team group http://groups.drupal.org/documentation-team with links asking for mentors to step up once there are a few issues to adopt. Will that work? (I have no idea what the timelines/deadlines here are like.)

cwgordon7 commentedThat sounds good, try to get a mentor on this, it's definitely worth doing. Students won't start on tasks until November 22nd.
arianek commentedDoes that mean that we have till then to file more issues? I'll post on Docs Team group as soon as I hear back from you and try and drum up some more help.

What's your melange user account? It's required to assign you as mentor.

btopro commentedsuggest defining WYSIWYG and what it means for the web and textfields. Since this is purely a documentation task it might be geared less towards the hard-core technical crowd who knows what that means and more towards someone trying to get into the community and wants to learn. The phrase would probably be glossed over as confusing unless they know what that is ahead of time.

hawksters commentedI compiled all of the information on a Google Docs Spreadsheet. I did not have the permissions to update the page on drupal.org. The link to the spreadsheet is on the Google Melange page.
