Could someone provide the steps to create a working gallery using D7 dev. Which versions of required modules are you using (styles, entity, media)?

I'm getting closer to having a working gallery but still can't get the images to appear.

I'm getting this error:
Notice: Undefined index: custom settings in field_view_mode_settings() (line 434 of /var/aegir/media3/modules/field/field.module)
a load of times when using the latest dev version of all relevant modules on a clean install. Anyone else?
