The variable that enables or disables automatic role assignment was introduced in #937468: Use Case - Administrator enables/disables automatic assignment. Make sure that the module respects this setting.

I can confirm the same behavior; auto assign works well but the user selectable radio buttons do not appear at registration.

I tried switching themes and disabling other installed modules.

I'll check the queue for related issues/known conflicts.
