Hi,

I am asking to become co-maintainer of the IP Login module: http://drupal.org/project/ip_login.

I have discussed the matter with the existing maintainer, David W Thomas (http://drupal.org/user/151344 ) and have his express permission to become co-maintainer here: http://drupal.org/node/943480. The plan is to commit the new version as either a new DEV release, or a new 6.x-2.x-DEV branch. This will allow the many users using my version to have a properly supported version of the module.

I have re-written, tidied and extended the IP Login module, and solicited feedback and testing from members of the Drupal community. The improved version is here: http://drupal.org/node/791410 - this version is now more secure, better commented and follows Drupal coding and security protocols as far as I know them. It is also now is more powerful, allowing wildcards and ranges, plus tighter Drupal UI integration. (see http://drupal.org/node/791410 for details) The main new use-case is to allow institutional users with IP ranges and subnets to auto-log into a given user account.

The module is in operation with no reported issues for many months on http://www.tolleyseminars.com. Some other users have reported issues - so far unsubstantiated - but trying to deal with all this in a single issue thread is hard, hence another reason for a new version or branch to be committed.

I have experience with Drupal since 2006 and use it almost exclusively for the rich websites I make. I've coded many bespoke modules and made many themes. I work professionally with Drupal on a daily basis and will be taking an active role in this module going forward. Indeed, the changes to IP Login were sponsored by Tolley Seminars Online.

I can of course provide any further information you need, and make any alterations you think are necessary over the xmas period.
