Themes allow you to change the look and feel of your Drupal site. These contributed themes are not part of any official release and may not work correctly. Only use matching versions of themes with Drupal. Themes released for Drupal 5.x will not work for Drupal 6.x. Many of these themes can also be previewed on the third party site the Theme Garden

Zen

Zen

Zen is the ultimate starting theme for Drupal. If you are building your own standards-compliant theme, you will find it much easier to start with Zen than to start with Garland or Bluemarine. This theme has fantastic online documentation and tons of code comments for both the PHP (template.php) and HTML (page.tpl.php, node.tpl.php).

This theme saved me at 2am. Three hours of messing with 1000+ lines of nasty Garland-adapted code later, I abandoned it and recoded the site as a Zen sub-theme in under an hour. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The idea behind the Zen theme is to have a very flexible standards-compliant and semantically correct XHTML theme that can be highly modified through CSS and an enhanced version of Drupal’s template system.

Out of the box, Zen is clean and simple with either a one, two, or three column layout of fixed or liquid width. In addition, the HTML source order has content placed before sidebars or the navbar for increased accessibility and SEO.

The name is an homage to the CSS Zen Garden site where designers can redesign the page purely through the use of CSS.

We are hoping to build up a library of Zen sub-themes, so feel free to hit this one like the Zen Garden and see how far you can extend it.

This is a re-implementation of the Internet Services (and 2nd Edition) theme by Luka Cvrk. This is a tableless, multi-column, fluid width layout. Parts of the design are ported from K2 theme.

NOTE! (2008-01-08) Drupal 4.7.x release will just keep on going with bugfix, no new feature will be included.

New Feature! (2008-04-20) Base theme is now a tableless, multi-column, fluid width layout. User can customize layout with custom.css, which will not override during version upgrade. 2nd Edition is now added to 5.x-2.x-dev, and 6.x-2.x-dev RTL support is fully tested with Acid2 compatible browsers, e.g. FireFox3, Opera9.2 and Safari3. Thanks for Zohar!

This theme is designed with accessibility in mind. Specific features are:
- Links at start of page to enable user to skip to relevant part of page (content, navigation, search, accessibility guide)
- Pre-header region to give more flexibility to the header layout - ie items can be placed before or after the logo
- Two/three-column layout: left and right sidebars and a central content area
- Access settings to allow users to select their preferred colours and fonts
- Ability to linearise the content
- Ability to customise on a site-specific basis
- Pre-defined box layouts to give your content rounded corners
- Allows site-specific styles sheets to be specified

The Drupal 6 version:
- uses table-less layout
- does not implement access keys

Framework is a blank canvas for theme developers. Use Framework as a starting point to help facilitate your theme development.

Features

  • The Framework theme gives general placement and formatting to basic Drupal elements.
  • Fixed width by default. Main column resizes between two-column and three-column layouts.
  • CSS file is organized by section and main selectors are already in place.
  • The administration section is stripped out of the default Garland theme.

Framework is not necessarily to be used as is. Please edit freely.

Ubiquity

Ubiquity tries to implement a generic yet stylish look found or sought by many webpage owners. It tries to be completely valid XHTML Strict and CSS 2.0. Using the ’anyorder columns’ layout style it will make your pages search engine friendly as the main content column comes first in the html. You can download the Photoshop source files and customize the theme to fit your needs.

The current stable version for Drupal 5.x is 5.x-0.3 which introduces support for secondary links.

Started porting this theme to Drupal 6.x, please test the nightly build, and report any issues you encounter. It is working nice already but quite untested yet.

This is a port of Andreas 02. This theme was originally designed by Andreas Viklund (andreasviklund.com) as a free website template. He states (http://andreasviklund.com/about/copyright/) "The free website templates (and all included images and related extras) are released as open source web design. It means that you may use the templates for free for any purpose, personal as well as commercial, without any obligations or conditions."

I would appreciate it if you would keep the links to mine and Andreas websites in the footer.

I do like this theme and have been asked to use it on a site with Drupal 5. This is my second theme ported to Drupal (please also see www.drupal.org/project/light and www.nickbits.co.uk). Since the Drupal community and others such as Andreas provide so much free, I thought the least I could do is to allow others to use this port.

Light

Light

The theme, Light, was originally created by Stephen Reinhardt for WordPress. I liked the theme so much that I have ported, with permission from Stephen, to Drupal for use on my website, nickbits.co.uk. Stephen has kindly allowed any use of this theme (please let me know if you require evidence), but I do encourage you to read the original license. It is a simple and clean theme ideal for blog's and small personal websites. This is a small project on the side of my normal job, so if any issues are found, please hang in there, I will fix any issues as time permits. I do welcome all constructive feedback.

I ask that anyone who uses this theme kindly leaves a link back to both my site (nickbits.co.uk) and the original authors in the footer.

Please note, I will be working on porting this (already started) to Drupal 6 by the end of the week (28th March) if not sooner.

Bluefire

Bluefire

The Bluefire theme is a one or two column fixed width table-less design. Bluefire incorporates css sprites for instant and seamless background image changes. Bluefire is fully XHTML compliant.

The Bluefire theme is currently only supported for Drupal 5.x, however we will be releasing a version for 6.x as soon as we have the time to make the appropriate changes.

The Bluefire theme is meant to be angular and cool with bold lines and sharp edges. Bluefire is aggressively designed and is best used with sites that will not have a great deal of content imagery (such as blogs etc...)

The Dark Theme

The so called “Dark Theme” was originally used on the Bartelme Design for 6 months or so. The "Dark Theme” - is now available as free Wordpress template. iLEMONED coded the initial Wordpress template.

This Drupal version of the template, is based heavily on iLEMONED work, with additional features from the SpreadFirefox theme.

Acta

Acta

The Acta theme is a one or two column fixed width table-less design. Acta incorporates css sprites for instant and seamless background image changes. Acta is fully XHTML compliant and has been tested in IE6, IE7, FireFox 2, and Safari 3 beta.

The Acta theme is currently only supported for Drupal 5.x, however we will be releasing a version for 6.x as soon as we have the time to make the appropriate changes.

The name Acta means "beach" in Latin. The Acta theme attempts to capture the essence of "the beach" through a mixture of soft tones of sky and ocean blues with the warm earth tones of sandy tans. This mixture of cool and warm colors makes for a delightful environment for some serious web surfing!

This is a fixed-width design featuring a single-colored header, top-aligned menus and a white background. It fits browser windows sized at least 800px wide, and can have sidebars on either side.

Tapestry's tableless CSS design validates to XHTML and CSS specifications according to the W3C web standards. Tapestry is fast-loading and compatible with most modern browsers including FireFox, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Opera. Most of Tapestry's advanced features will work even in older browsers like IE6.

We've validated many Tapestry pages with the Accessibility Valet, and we believe that Tapestry generates markup that is generally in compliance with Section 508 web accessibility guidelines.

Tapestry is designed to take particular advantage of two Drupal contributed modules. Using the Theme Settings API Module, Tapestry provides a simple interface for managing it's many features and options. And Tapestry provides a large collection of custom block themes for use with the Block Theme Module.

Tapestry is available for download on the Tapestry Demo Site Download Page.

You can also download Tapestry from the Tapestry Project Page on Drupal.org. However, drupal.org rules prevent us from including the Tapestry icons (which are released under Creative Commons) in this distribution. You'll also need to download the ThemeSettingsAPI module and the BlockTheme module separately. If you want the full package, download the theme from our site.
