Airy Blue

Airy Blue is a blog-style Zen sub-theme created for Open Source Catholic in 2009. The theme validates as XHTML 1.0 strict, uses some beautiful CSS3 features (currently supported more in FireFox, Safari and Chrome than other browsers), and includes styling for most of Drupal's default markup. It has a 'light' and 'airy' feel to it, and matches well with Drupal's default shades of blue.

Included in the theme is the PSD (Photoshop) file for the header; you can re-color it and adjust the shading/styling of it if you'd like, and make your own header. Also, be sure to read the README.txt file inside the theme folder so you can take full advantage of the theme's features/customizations.

Theme Features

  • Web 2.0 styling - light and easy on the eyes
  • Valid XHTML 1.0 - Tested in IE 6/7, FF, Safari
  • Example of progressive enhancement - some CSS3 included
  • Up to three columns w/ 200 pixel sidebars
  • Based on popular Zen theme, so lots of documentation for modification
  • Styling for comments, user pictures, signatures, etc.
  • Custom Maintenance Page included

CSS3 Features

For now, rounded corners have been added to most of the block-level elements of the theme; using the CSS border-radius property instead of image files or extra markup makes your site load faster, and can look much nicer if you're using a good modern browser. The CSS degrades well in Internet Explorer and other non-forward-seeking browsers.

Also, headings (set in "Warnock Pro", then Georgia if a user doesn't have Warnock) use the text-shadow property, currently only supported by some Webkit-based browsers.

To Install

Before you enable this theme in admin/build/themes, you need to make sure the Zen theme (the 6.x-2.x-dev release - 1.x will not work) is installed (it need not be enabled, but must be present in your themes folder - either sites/all/themes or sites/example.com/themes).

If you'd like to use the Airy Blue maintenance page, please follow the directions inside the included README.txt file; it isn't used unless you tell Drupal you want to use it.

Issues

This is my first theme, so please bear with me! If you have any problems with the theme, leave an issue, and I'll try to respond as soon as I can. Thanks for taking a look at this theme!
