Bundles are an overused term in Drupal.

In D7, bundles most likely refers to an implementation of an entity type to which fields can be attached.

In D8, Features added a concept of a bundle as a set of features that share a common namespace.

The plan for this project is to extend Feature's concept of Bundles to include a permission that can be granted to users in specific roles that will allow them to enable that bundle and its dependencies without requiring 'administer modules' permission. In D7, bundles and permissions where both defined by Profile Module Manager. In D8, this will be abstracted allowing you to either use included bundle_ui or develop your own UI to allow a site owner with little to little or no site building experience to enable specific feature sets included with an install profile.
