Change Management provides tools for people who wish to effect change and collaborate for common interests.
Intended benefits:
- Volunteers can improve their understanding, plan their work, and analyze changes with relevant information.
- Participants across decentralized layers can have rich interaction within and between projects.
- Prior experience with Drupal helps. Setup, configuration, maintenance, and usage are all familiar tasks.
- All included functionality is free and built on the core Drupal framework, making it very extensible.
- The Package Builder module facilitates modification, deployment, and distribution.
- Forks and merges of/with this package are available on DrupalPM and elsewhere. The curious can click Fork me on DrupalPM.
- Software developers can leverage this management paradigm or create another and still integrate with the source code management plug-in. See Mercurial module.
Background Information:
* There are many management tools available, but few are built on Drupal. Drupal provides a powerful collaboration framework and, with its plethora of extensions, a vast range of possibilities. Therefore any work done in Drupal can add to the ecosystem and multiply its value, if properly implemented.
* Most existing management systems are built with insufficient abstraction for adaptation to the necessities of decentralized control. The Drupal project, like any freely undertaken endeavor, uses a social model founded on trust. This social model and its management tools are its essence; and they are decentralized.
* Following successful use of Drupal's own Project Module on drupal.org, members of the Drupal commmunity built guidelines for improved project management that leverages decentralized processes. This work attempts to build on these design guidelines while maintaining generalizability beyond this community.
About this project:
The goal of this project is to participate in the growth of systems theory by investigating and implementing successful change management paradigms in Drupal. Our goal is to build a platform for effecting change that enables involved parties to focus on holistic change and sound development processes. Collaborators on this project will progressively improve a functional and flexible starting point for change agents across a wide range of disciplines. This module is only one configuration out of many possible variations.
Insight about change helps agents plan projects; this software centers around making wise changes. It helps you model your ideas as identifiable changes and organize them into sustainable releases. Collaborators can perform fundamental analysis for improved peer-based planning and change review. Dialogue helps collaborators organize and agree on plans to complete changes and make releases. Also, it helps by getting out of the way when you want to perform concrete changes.
