Distributions provide site features and functions for a specific type of site as a single download containing Drupal core, contributed modules, themes, and pre-defined configuration. They make it possible to quickly set up a complex, use-specific site in fewer steps than if installing and configuring elements individually.
Barracuda
Barracuda is a bash script to install and/or upgrade, tuned for high performance, Aegir Master Instance with all related system services. Barracuda is compatible with Octopus installer.
You can install one Aegir Master Instance on your server using Barracuda and then add any number of Aegir Satellite Instances (on the same server) using Octopus installer, or you can use new install wrappers to install everything in 3 simple commands.
Note: the 'Master' and 'Satellite' names in the Barracuda/Octopus context are not related to the multi-server Aegir features. It is related to the multi-Aegir-instances environment, with virtual chroot/jail for every Aegir instance.
Barracuda is the main script for the base/core Aegir Hosting System install and upgrades, including OS environment, main Aegir instance, but no platforms will be added there to keep it compatible with all existing and future installs, when you don't need any ready to use platforms and instead you are using the system for managing your own imported platforms/sites.

Scald Galaxy
Scald Galaxy is a distribution to demonstrate Scald - a media management suite. It was designed so that you can easily test the variety of Scald's features with Simplytest.me.
There are undoubtedly much more modules than what you need included in this distribution. It serves as only a demo. If you want to build a real site, pick a few modules that you need and go on.
This profile is also intended for developers who want to work on Scald. It always fetches the latest version of Scald so that you can do several tests when working on a bug or a new feature.

Saybit-Science Basic
Saybit-Science is an installation profile that sets up a basic intranet for collaborative documentation of research activities and data curation in science organizations. It could be used in academic research labs or companies that do research.
Saybit-Science fas the following features:
1) Content Types: Project, data-store, document, and discussion. The content is linked together in a hierarchical organization using a specialized version of node relativity.
2) Flags: To bookmark and set the status of content.
3) Notifications: Users are sent node and comment updates. The team UI allows team members to 'CC' others on updates to keep everyone informed.
4) Roles: There are roles for more limited access to create content (Experimenter) and full content creation permission (Project Manager). There is also a Site Administrator role with broad functional access.
5) 'Teammates': Userreference_nodeaccess field allowing team members to give edit/delete grants to other users for selected content. This allows to create teams with access to certain documents.
