Paired with the powerful Fusion base theme, Fusion Accelerator puts easy point-and-click styling of basic Drupal elements within easy reach of site administrators. The philosophy behind the Fusion theming system hinges on applying Drupal’s inherit modularity to the theme layer. This system brings the ability to easily tweak the styling of a site, create new content or re-arrange a site’s layout to site administrators or builders who do not have traditional theming skills.
Fusion Accelerator
Quickly and easily generate new Fusion-friendly CSS grid files from the Drupal UI. Whether you’re a theme developer building a new site from scratch or using a pre-built Fusion-based theme, you can easily change the grid layout of your site using the files generated by this module. If you site calls for an oddly-specific width or unusual number columns, you don’t have to worry about the math work and checking cross-browser compatibility for your custom grid!
Moving Forward
In the future, we plan to add a number of features to Fusion Accelerator. Some of our ideas:
- More robust options and direct control over Fusion-based themes’ grids
- Baseline grids
- Style plugins for Views
- Quickly roll a new Fusion-based sub-theme from the Drupal UI
- User-friendly Skin builder to expose skin options to Fusion Apply
- The ability to package default Skin settings with a Fusion-based sub-theme
What would you suggest? We’re open to hearing what our users would like to see from this themer-helping module. Feel free to open Feature Requests and we will consider your ideas!
Fusion Apply
Fusion Apply allows theme developers to build modular, reusable Skins that are applied, via the Drupal UI, to different Drupal elements such as blocks, menus, views, etc. This functionality can help expedite the theming process, preserve the inherit flexibility of Drupal for site administrators and provide clients with more control over their site’s layout and content.
Without Fusion Apply styles for Drupal elements are hard-coded into the CSS using element IDs and adding a new element means editing CSS to target the new ID. See the dirty markup.
When you use Fusion Apply you create CSS styles for one class name, which can be applied to multiple Drupal elements and re-used throughout the site without editing CSS. See the cleaner, more sustainable markup.
A note about Fusion Apply and Skinr
Users who are familiar with using the Fusion base theme will recognize the functionality of Fusion Apply as being strikingly similar to the Skinr module, and they won’t be mistaken. Drupal 7 has been stable for many months and is beginning to become widely used by many different types of Drupalistas. Unfortunately, the Skinr module’s development process has not kept up with the quick adoption of Drupal 7. Our need for Skinr outgrew our ability to help Skinr 7.x move forward along its development path, so we decided to fork the project and provide what was necessary for a stable build.
Our focus and our loyalty has always been to the people using our themes - whether they are novice or intermediate Drupal users who we help every day with our free themes and support or purchasers of our premium themes and custom services. With the goal in mind of serving our customers and the community, we have made the decision to roll Skinr’s functionality in with Fusion Accelerator. In the future we can ensure that we will have complete control over the core functionality that our themes (and customers) depend on.
Which version should I use?
Always match the major version number of Fusion Accelerator with the major version number of Fusion Core that you are using.
Fusion 6.x-1.x - Use Skinr 6.x-1.x
Fusion 7.x-1.x - Use Skinr 7.x-dev (note: Skinr may be unstable, read developer’s notes carefully).
Fusion 7.x - 2.x - Use Fusion Accelerator 7.x-2.x
