Adds user profile searching capabilities without the need to keep patching profile.module every time Drupal core is updated.

Please use the features tracker to suggest additional functionality in the module. Unless requested, a specific 4.7 version of this module will no longer be developed. However, the 5.x version does appear to work properly in 4.7. Any feedback on that would appreciated.

Usage

When activated the module adds an additional 'User Profiles' tab to the Drupal search page. ?q=/search/profile

Installation

After the module has been installed, you should add the code in the README.txt file to your theme's template.php file. This will then remove the default Users tab from the search page.

Attention

It has come to my notice that when a new user registers and fills in a profile field, that user will not appear in the search results. This is a known bug in the Profile module. The issue has been solved in Drupal 5.2, so upgrade your Drupal install if you are experiencing this problem.
