Touch Icons theme settings

The Touch Icons module allows site administrators and themers to specify icons for use as Web Clip bookmarks on the homescreen of an iPhone and other iOS devices.

Extra theme settings are provided so that Touch icons can be configured for each theme, similar to the logo and shortcut icon settings provided by Drupal core. The module comes with default Druplicon touch-icons which complement Garland's blue look.

Sites with more than one active theme (and multi-site set-ups) can benefit greatly from this module.

Two kinds of touch icon can be configured (rel='apple-touch-icon' and rel='apple-touch-icon-precomposed').

Theme Support

Themers can package touch icons with themes, much like favicon.ico and logo.jpg can be included already. Simply add apple-touch-icon.png and (optionally) apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png files to the theme folder, and this module will find them.

Advice on creating a suitable icon can be found in Apple's Web Applications documentation, and Brandon Ballentine's Web Clip icon tutorial.

Some specimen icons are available, featuring the Druplicon against different background colours.

Configuration

After enabling the module, you can customize your touch icons on the theme settings page (admin/build/themes/settings). Refer to the screenshot and installation guide for further information.

If you are using Theme settings extras, touch icons settings are shown with a simpler UI and vertical tabs summaries (see screenshot).

Compatibility with other modules

There was a known compatibility problem between the Touch Icons and Nodewords modules, which prevented Touch Icons' HTML link elements from being included correctly. It was fixed in the Nodewords 6.x-1.12 series, and updating to the latest supported release is recommended.
