Up RPC is a system for migrating data from a Drupal 5 site to a Drupal 6 site, for use on those site upgrades where the D6 version of the site is an entirely new build rather than an upgrade.
Imports run as a batch process, with data transmitted over XMLRPC using Services and Transport. The framework provides the means to migrate users, taxonomy terms, and nodes, including CCK fields.
The package includes modules for both the Drupal 5 and 6 sites, and should be downloaded to the modules folder of both sites (if they are on the same server you can of course just symlink). Full setup instructions are in the README file.
Configuration of node import, such as CCK field mapping, type changes, data massaging, etc, currently has to be done in a custom module using hooks defined by the framework. An extensive example of how to do this is provided. This part of the system still has a few rough edges: if you can help, please look for 'todo' comments in the code ;)
For more details, see the README file.
Status
This project is still being developed, but is stable, and has already been successfully used to migrate several large Drupal sites.
