This project provides two modules that implement the Messaging and Notifications 2.x APIs. It's based off of this notifications and messaging tutorial, but actually has working code you can install and play with. I'm only planning on implementing the bare minimum to get a message sent out. Ideally, other functionality such as custom entities and messaging backends should be split off into separate modules.
