When a user receive an email notification that tells them that they have a new message, an URL to read that message is (default) provided.
When the user clicks on that link (and isnt logged in) they will be redirected to an 404page.
Wouldnt it be better if they were redirected to the login and when they login, they are again redirected to the message they were trying to read at the first.

berdirSee #967322: email notification: clicking on !message (URL) link returns a "page not found"

drupalninja99 commentedI tested the patch for 1.3 and it was giving me 404 errors for messages I have access to.
Comment #4
rudy de kok commentedstart with using drupal_access_denied() instead of returning FALSE on access checks.
and please no drupal_goto()...

dpatte commentedthis patch seems to work for many people, but is this same issue?

Comment #6
rudy de kok commentedthat patch is equally undesirable. Since I need this to work for my day job I will try to whip up a patch somewhere this week using drupal_access_denied() to return a 403. Other modules or even the active theme can than respond to the 403 as they see fit. Since not all sites want to redirect users to '/user' or '/user/login'; this module should not do that for them
