Just briefly, 'handbooks' is known as 'documentation' now (and the URL has changed), and the 'support' page is now 'community' (and the URL has changed). Maybe this could be updated on the welcome screen that shows after people install D6?

e.g. replace existing with this

$default_message .= '

'. t('For more information, please refer to the help section, or the online Drupal documentation. You may also post at the Drupal forum, or view the wide range of other support options available.', array('@help' => url('admin/help'), '@documentation' => 'http://drupal.org/documentation', '@forum' => 'http://drupal.org/forum', '@community' => 'http://drupal.org/community')) .'

';

I made a little patch :)
