I have been struggling to modify a node_type using node_type_save(). I edit in interface it works, edit using code and no change. It ended up being a simple matter of setting the modified property to TRUE. This seems like something quite subtle that should be documented.

jdillick commentedDoesn't appear to be relevant to D8 anymore. NodeType config entity, and no relevant procedural wrapper with this property.
