1. There are many branches named 'master' hard-wired into the code which will become something else shortly.

2. There are many references to git-dev.drupal.org that will have to be changed to git.drupal.org

OK, this patch changes all repository URLs into variables, so we can manage the Git migration more easily. There will still be lots of work to be done here, as the assumption is that "core" is Drupal 7.

My first patch made with
git format-patch 6.x-3.x --stdout >/tmp/patchfile.patch.
