This is the first time for me messing around with the metadata code, but since I've spent a lot of time debugging entity wrappers I thought I would give it a shot.

This is mostly just c/p of the code for the image field, but it seems to work fine.

oh thanks for the patch, integration with other contribs should go in the contrib modules directly though. There is already an issue with another patch: #1079782: support hook_entity_property_info() - please test/review.
