There's more admin page clutter which might be able to be removed. For example, we could combine

CAS CA PEM certificate verification:
[ ] Do not verify the certificate
[ ] Verify the Certificate Authority using PEM certificate

CAS CA PEM Certificate:
The PEM certificate of the Certificate Authority that issued the certificate of the CAS server.
[ ]

into

CAS CA PEM Certificate:
A file containing the PEM certificate of the Certificate Authority that issued the certificate for the CAS server. If omitted, the certificate authority will not be verified.
[ ]

Other usability ideas:
Move "Check with the CAS server to see if the user is already logged in?" into the "User" or "Redirection" settings.

Put all of the CAS proxy options in one fieldset, or at least make the follow-up items conditionally dependent on the first.

Here I've implemented the ideas in the original post and #1, and additionally rearranged several of the items.

What do you think? I've attached the proposed settings page as a PNG for comparison. (Note that the collapsible fieldsets still remain -- i just took a picture with JavaScript disabled so that I didn't have to manually open each pane).

Generally like the changes. They seem like an improvement. I wish it could be simpler still, but I can't think of anything that would improve it.

Committed the patch in #2, plus some additional wording changes to 6.x-3.x and 7.x-1.x.

The first fieldset is 'CAS Server' which contains:

CAS Server
- Version
- Hostname
- Port
- URI
- Certificate Authority PEM Certificate

The next fieldset is 'Login Form' which is unchanged.

Then 'User accounts'.
I revised the 'Email domain' textfield to 'E-mail address' and then made the textfield appear as username@[ .... ].
This makes it completely obvious about what to enter into the box.

Then 'Redirection' which is untouched except for the addition of the 'Check with the CAS server to see if the user is already logged in?' option.

Then 'Login/Logout destinations'

Then 'Miscellaneous and Experimental settings' which includes debugging options and the CAS proxy settings.

Overall I think it's easier to use, but like you, I too wish it could be simpler still.
