From @merlinofchaos in #1155946: "radios / checkboxes" widget could support HTML tags (img...) coming from views :
[the fields being forced to display 'inline' at runtime] do not show up in the preview, and it's very difficult to get it to do what you want. As much as possible, all of this should be done within the view somewhere so that the preview will show you as close to the same results as you actually get on the page.

yched commentedProposal (patch + topic branch 'inline_fields-1157538' in the git repo).
This introduces a new row plugin, that defaults all fields to 'inline' just before render(), if no specific 'inline' configuration is found (I guess there are cases where you'd want your fields split on 2 or 3 lines rather than all inline)

yched commentedStill todo : we should make this new, dedicated 'references_fields' row plugin only available within 'References' displays.
Also, I guess "just before render()" means we should override pre_render() rather than render()...
