Just out of curiosity, how's 4.x doing?

On the module page it says "new versions will probably be coming out every couple weeks" but there has been no activity for almost six month now (not here, nor from webform.com). Is the 7.x-4.0-alpha6 so stable that it should be released as stable? Or has the Drupal 8 development just drained every resource for a while?

Never mind, I went with Entityforms.

I was wondering the same thing. Lot's of patches but not many releases (or blog entries on webform.com.) Are you looking for co-maintainers?

We also want to use 7.x-4.x but there is no stable version.
Is it possible to know the reasons ?
And to get the list of issues preventing from getting a stable release ?

We just made a new beta release today (beta2) that was coordinated with the security team (https://drupal.org/node/2194175). So we're still making progress, though more slowly than I had intended.

The last major feature I wanted to include was a summary page, which was completed in #435232: Summary/review/preview page before final submission in multistep forms. A nice-to-have was converting 4.x to use Views instead of manually created listings (#1823450: [Meta] Convert core listings to Views), but that can probably wait until after release.

The primary reason for no final release of Webform 4.x is the amount of shifting it will cause to users once it's the recommended release. With over 200K installs of Webform 3.x, that's a lot of sites that may be upgrading. I'd suggest you use the 4.x branch right now over 3.x if you're building a new site.

@quicksketch - you are an amazing contributor and I'm sure you are very busy, but also a victim of your own success. with 200K users, I think its all the more important to get to a stable release or folks will probably keep patching and stay on version 3 as "beta" will dissuade updates - no? Perhaps adding #1823450 and calling it a release candidate is a compromise?

I think we'll probably keep Views conversions as a post 4.0 feature. The only hold-ups this point around 4.0 are the bugs that we introduced (or found) in the most recent beta:

#2204515: Webform preview "back" button submits form
#2204273: Analysis incorrect for negative numbers
#2201493: Numeric field no longer accepts 0.00 as valid

There are dozens of other less-important bugs that can be addressed after release.

With all the main issues addressed, we're pretty much ready to release 4.0. I plan on making a new RC today and then make the final release later this month, assuming nothing critical comes up. The last beta has had so few new issues reported I think we're in a good place for release. We don't have any unreviewed patches, no critical issues, and no major issues. Looks like the perfect time for release. :)
