I'm using Gravatar integration on my site.
After enabling avatar in display suite user's avatar dose not show in messages.
Its because implemented theme_heartbeat_activity_avatar function, why this function is necessary when theme('user_picture') is available?

I fix this issue by replacing Drupal built in function to populate avatar variable in message. I'm looking for a reason why module's author didn't select this method?

Am not sure if it's relevant but am desperate for help.....I've disabled user pictures and added a separate user profile picture field..... Is it possible to show the custom picture field as heartbeat avatar????
